Perceptual Quality Assessment for Digital Audio: PEAQ – the new ITU Standard for Objective Measurement of Perceived Audio Quality

Proc. Of the AES 17th International Conference, pp. 337-351, 1999, Florence Italy

An increasing attention is being paid to the issue of objective quality assessment, basically in the perceptual coding and the metrology domains. Perceptual coding of audio signals is increasingly used in transmission and storage of high quality digital audio, and there is an obvious demand for an acceptable objective method to measure the quality of such signals. In consequence, a new measurement method combining features from several earlier methods is proposed. This method meets the requirements of the user community, and it has become a recommendation within the ITU Radio communication Study Groups [1].
